Artilla

Artilla.

Artilla was an android "walking weapons system", who was once part of a group of robotic bounty hunters under the influence of a mysterious being known as "The Great One". Artilla eventually broke free of the group, though his old comrades, led by Revolton, tried to hunt him down and bring back him back to their master[1].

Artilla eventually visited Primus at the request of the Scientists. At the time of his visit, He-Man, Hydron and Flipshot were seeking new recruits for the Galactic Guardians, and Artilla volunteered to join the group. Artilla impressed Hydron and Flipshot by using his powerful lasers to melt a wall of Paladorium steel.

Artilla's first mission with the Guardians was to stop the spaceship Blatazeen 5, which carried deadly Deenos Gas, from crashing into Primus. After the success of the mission, he was made a full Galactic Guardian[2].

One of Artilla's responsibilities after joining the group was to train the new Primus soldiers. He was a harsh task master, who accepted nothing but the best from the new recruits under his command[3].

Later, while in Gorn City on a mission with Ambassador Bimo, Artilla encountered Revolton and his old robo bounty hunting allies, who took him prisoner and attempted to return him to the Great One. With Bimo's assistance, Artilla was able to turn the tables on Revolton and the robot bounty hunters and defeat them[4].

Behind the Scenes[]

  • His name is a portmanteau of "Artillery" and "Atilla" (As in Atilla the Hun) due to his firepower and abilities as a warrior. In Europe, the character was marketed as Weaponstronic.
  • The cartoon series hinted at a backstory for Artilla which was never followed up on. In the episode There's Gems In Them Hills, Artilla is being hunted by a mysterious figure known as "The Great One". As this was one of the final episodes of the series, the episode never received a sequel, and the story was left unresolved.
