Count Marzo and his evil servant, Chimera

In the 1983 cartoon series, he is a sorcerer who reverts Teela's childhood friend David into a child after wiping his memory. He has a Frankenstein-like sidekick called Chimera. He-Man eventually defeats them.

He later returns to trick Jahno into giving him the Eternian Flower which he uses to turn Jahno's friends against him and to gather an army of Eternia's youths. Later on, he unleashes the Wolfbats on them. When that plan is foiled and the Wolfbats are defeated, he and Chimera flee back to their home planet of Eronia where they are apprehended by He-Man.

It is later revealed that Count Marzo rescued Mekaneck's son Philip in a forest during a storm. Mekaneck had to lead King Randor and Queen Marlena to an oasis where Count Marzo captures them. He-Man defeats them and Count Marzo and Chimera get away. When He-Man confronts Marzo, he explains that it's difficult for people like himself to make a better life for themselves on Eternia with He-Man around, and He-Man states that the only reason why it's difficult for people like Marzo to make better lives for themselves is because Marzo's idea of a better life includes no one other than himself. Marzo counters He-Man's argument, stating that he has been around for thousands of years and will likely outlive He-Man, and says "In the end, we'll see who's right." He then disappears from the cave, and is never seen again after that, nor is his sidekick Chimera.

Trivia[]

  • Marzo was a character created for Filmation's cartoon series and was not based on a toy concept. However, the 200x version from the Mike Young Productions cartoon did receive an action figure in the Masters of the Unvierse Classics toyline. His Filmation version never did receive a figure, though some fans have tried to repaint and retool the 200x version to look more like the Filmation design.
