Lodar is the main villain of the minicomic Slave City! He took the city of Targa with his army of Kobolds and enslaved the population. When the Kobolds captured an amnesiac He-Man, he made him fight Garn, another prisoner, in the arena, the victor being set free. He-Man recovers his memory and wins, but he refuses to kill his competitor. Instead, he attacks Lodar and wins. The Kobolds flee at the sight of their master losing. Afterwards, Lodar and the Kobolds are banished underground, where Lodar will no longer be able to use magic without the sun and the moon, from which he draws his power.

Classic Bio[]

Lodar was a battle-scarred gladiator in the preternia slave city of Targa when he stole magic from a sympathetic Zodac, forever gaining the ability to draw power from the sun and moons of Eternia. Nearly invincible, Lodar soon conquered Targa intending to free the slaves, but power quickly corrupted him. He amused himself by creating the hideous but devoted Kobold warriors and pitting his subjects against them in the arena where he once fought.

Masters of the Universe Classics[]

During the Great War, a disappointed Zodac helped King Grayskull liberate Targa and trap Lodar with his Kobolds in the catacombs beneath the city. With Lodar's remaining power they endured motionless for thousands of years until Queen Balina and her wizard Draca freed them, exposing Lodar again to Eternian Sun. In return, he helped them usurp the targan throne from Balina's stepdaughter Princess Rana, turning Targa once more into a slave city. Eventually, Rana sought out He-man, who fought Lodar's warriors in the arena before persuading them to join forces and overthrow Balina, driving Lodar back to the catacombs.

Trivia[]

  • Lodar was going to be named "Zodak". By the time the author of Slave City! discovered that there was already a character named "Zodac" (sometimes spelled with a "K"), the comic had already gone to print, so it had to be altered - changing Z to L and K to R, to rename the character "Lodar".
