Mara is a character from The New Adventures of He-Man.
The New Adventures of He-Man[]
Talented and intelligent, Mara was the young assistant to Master Sebrian, the wise leader of the planet Primus. Mara supported Sebrian in his duties as leader of the people of Primus, as well as looking after his general wellbeing. Mara had lead a relatively peaceful life until Skeletor arrived in the future and allied himself with the Mutants, after which she was forced to step up and place herself in increasingly dangerous situations.

With the planet Primus under siege from the Mutants, Mara joined Caz in piloting the Starship Eternia on a mission to the Cameroon Asteroid to warn He-Man that Primus was in jeopardy. Some time after this, when Skeletor and the Mutants launched a full scale invasion of Primus and managed to successfully occupy the planet, Mara escaped into the wilderness with He-Man. There, she helped He-Man to recruit Nathan and his villagers to their cause, and was instrumental in forming an underground resistance to fight back against the Primans Mutant oppressors.
Mara often displayed a suspicion that Master Sebrian's alleged nephew, Adam, was more than he seemed. Mara noted that Adam seemed unaware of several Priman customs and traditions, and noted that he never seemed to be around at the same time as He-Man. Having worked closely with He-Man for some time, there were hints of romantic interest between the two. Mara also appeared to be jealous when He-Man's old friend, Teela, briefly visited Primus.
With her experiences fighting the Mutants and her tutelage under Master Sebrian, Mara was selected as the Priman representative to the Mytes of the planet Necron. After helping to rescue the Mytes' leader, President Pell, from the evil Gleanons, Mara was asked to stay on Necron and soon formed a close bond with the Myte people. During her time on the planet, she developed a fierce rivalry with Crita, who had been sent as the Mutant envoy to General Nifel and the Gleanons. While working with the Mytes, Mara traded in her Priman tunic for a set of battle armour, and grew her hair out to such a length that she could use it as a flail in battle. Due to her service and loyalty to the Myte people, they crowned her their Queen.

During the final battle against the Mutants, Mara came to the aid of Primus with her Myte allies, and attempted to hold back the oncoming Mutant armada. Unfortunately, her Myte forces were easily overpowered. Soon after, He-Man returned and delivered a final defeat to the Mutants, forcing Flogg to finally surrender. Unwilling to accept defeat, Skeletor instead chose to transport himself, He-Man, Mara and Crita to the ruins in the Oasis for one final battle. Mara and Crita had one final duel, which ended when Crita accidentally pulled down a large stone pillar onto herself. Acting quickly, Mara used her hair to grab Crita and saved from her death, tossing her into an unprepared Skeletor and sending the two of them over a cliff and crashing into a nearby Shuttle Pod. He-Man then used his Sword of Power to seal Skeletor and Crita in the Shuttle Pod and banish them into space. Mara questioned whether Skeletor would return, but He-Man assured her that without his Skull Staff, he would remain trapped for all time.

Behind the Scenes[]
- An action figure of Mara in her "Queen of the Mytes" armour was planned, alongside figures of the Gleanons and Mytes (called Galactimytes in the toyline), but the figures were never released, despite making it to the prototype stage. Mara would finally receive an action figure many years later as part of the Masters of the Universe Classics (toyline).
- Mara would also be used in the 2018 series She-Ra and the Princesses of Power. In this series, Mara was actually a past incarnation of She-Ra. In her civilian form, Mara wore a variation of her blue battle armour. In an interview at Comic-2019, showrunner ND Stevenson confirmed that the character of Mara was a direct reference to the New Adventures.
