Character history[]
Toyline biography[]

Mission: To aid He-Man and the rest of the Galactic Guardians in their battle against Skeletor and his Evil Mutants from the planet Denebria.
Battle Equipment: Space Helmet, Energy Bazooka, shoulder space armor.
Minicomics[]
Kayo was a Galactic Guardian who was sent to recover the Trifusium Crystal which was stolen by the Mutants Slush Head and Optikk. Upon his arrival on Denebria, he was captured by Flogg, but managed to escape during a distraction created by Skeletor's arrival[1].
Kayo then sent a distral signal which was answered by the the arrival of He-Man, Hydron and Flipshot. Kayo worked with He-Man to recover the stolen crystal and return it to Primus[2]. Kayo later faced off against Optikk at the Titus observatory, and defeated him with a punch on his face/eye, accompanied by the one-liner "made you blink!"
The New Adventures of He-Man[]
Kayo was a tough, determined, Galactic Guardian, who would often punch first and ask questions later. He had a gruff, surly demeanour and was not one to back down from a fight. One of the earliest recruits of the Guardians, Kayo was first seen charging into battle against the Mutants on Levitan[3], and later jumped in an Astrosub to repel Mutant fighters during a full scale invasion of Primus[4].
Kayo was later selected to join the Galactic Guardians' contingent taking part in "the games", a series of tournaments hosted by the mysterious Royka and Molden. Before travelling to the games, the Guardians visited Yolt, the blacksmith of Crelus, who equipped them with new armour and weapons. Kayo's armour was upgraded and he was fitted with a twin missile launcher backpack[5].
Kayo fought in the games, and was then imprisoned by Royka and Molden alongside the other Guardians. They eventually managed to escape and return to Primus, just in time to stop Flogg's final invasion of the planet, and end the war between Primus and Denebria once and for all[6].
Behind the scenes[]
- Kayo's name is a play on "K.O", which is an abbreviation of the word "knockout". This is due to his punching abilities.
- Despite his prominence in the show's opening titles, Kayo made few appearances throughout the cartoon. He eventually received an expanded role during the show's final six part story arc, which featured him receiving an upgraded look.
Toyline[]
Kayo was released in the first wave of the He-Man toyline. He included a removable helmet and shoulderpads, a firearm and a wrist shield. By turning his waist, he could punch with his right hand or block with the left one.
