Slush Head (also known as Kalamarr) was a Mutant enforcer under the leadership of Flogg. Despite his general stupidity, Slush Head serves as the second in command to Flogg, and the co-pilot of the Mutant Mothership.
Character history[]
Minicomics[]
Slush Head was one of Flogg's Mutant henchmen. He was often seen arguing with his fellow Mutant; Optikk. He was soon brought under the control of Skeletor[1].
Skeletor sent Slush Head and Optikk to use the Terrorclaw against He-Man and Kayo, but they were captured by Flipshot using the Bolajet's weapon[2].
Skeletor rescued Slush Head and Optikk and ordered them to attack the Titus observatory. There, Slush Head trapped one of the technicians with his tentacles, and later showed Skeletor the place where they stole the Trifusium Crystal from. Slush Head was then defeated by Hydron using the Astrosub[3].
The New Adventures of He-Man[]
Slush Head was one of Flogg's top Lieutenants, serving as the Co-Pilot of the Mutant Mothership, which effectively made him Flogg’s second in command. Slush Head was dim witted and incompetent, and often found himself the subject of Flogg’s anger. Despite this, he was extremely loyal to Flogg. Unlike the other Mutants, Slush Head was not completely evil; he viewed battles and fighting as nothing more than ‘fun’[4] and a love of music[5].
Slush Head hailed from the Quagmi Swamp on Denebria, a place most other Mutants found disgusting because of its deadly creatures and foul stench. Slush Head was most at home in the swamp, with his family and friends also living there[6]. When away from the swamp, he needed to wear a helmet filled with swamp water to allow him to breathe away from his natural habitat[7].
When He-Man arrived on Primus, Slush Head was one of the first Mutants to attack him[8]. When Skeletor allied with the Mutants, Slush Head was confused as to who was really giving the orders; Flogg or Skeletor[9]. Despite his bumbling, Slush Head was often selected to accompany Skeletor in his various schemes[10][11], and also lead the Mutants on missions on several occasions[12].
In battle, Slush Head used his metal tentacles to grab his enemies and disarm his opponents before they had a chance to fight back. He also used a laser-axe which functioned as both an axe and laser rifle[13].
One one occasion, Skeletor used a brainwave amplifier to increase Slush Head's intelligence, making him a genius. The effects of the amplifier were reversed when Skeletor realised that Slush Head had become too smart for his own good[14]. When Staghorn incited mutiny against Flogg, Slush Head sided with Flogg and attacked the treacherous Mutant in defence of his leader[15]. Slush Head was engaged to another Mutant from his swamp; Felca, and the two eventually married in a grand ceremony in the Quagmi Swamp. Slush Head loved Felca deeply, and even allowed the Galactic Guardian, Sagitar, to serve as the best man at their wedding after he saved Felca's life. [16]
Slush Head later served as part of the Mutant contingent during the Galactic Games; and was disappointed he didn't receive a weapons upgrade from the Blacksmith of Crelus[17]. When the Mutants began their final invasion of Primus, Slush Head was amongst the Mutants cornered by the returning Starship Eternia, and refused Flogg's order to "fight til' the end". Flogg eventually decided to surrender, and Slush Head witnessed the signing of the treaty which finally ended the war between Primus and the Mutants, declaring it to be a "pretty sad day" before being told to shutup by the other Mutants. [18]
DC Comics[]
Slush Head, alongside the other Mutants, had been held prisoner aboard the Starship Eternia for some time, before they managed to break out during an attack staged by Anti He-Man.
Slush Head lead the escaped Mutants on a rampage throughout the ship, engaging He-Man and Mara in combat, before Flogg awakened and intervened, ordering Slush Head to stop the attack. Slush Head was quick to rush to Flogg's side, and followed his order to stop the fight[19].
Toyline[]
Slush Head was released in the first wave of the He-Man toyline, and again in a two pack with a figure of He-Man.
Behind the scenes[]
- Other than Skeletor and Flogg, Slush Head was the most frequently appearing villain in the animated series.
