Biography[]

Staghorn leads an attack.

Before He-Man and Skeletor arrived in the future to shake up the conflict between the Primans and the Mutants, Staghorn had been causing trouble away from Primus. He raided and plundered the planet Equinos, and while there made an enemy of Sagitar. Staghorn apparently emerged victorious on that occasion, but he and Sagitar continued to harbour a grudge against one another.[1] Many years later, Skeletor planned to trap He-Man while having the Mutants disguise themselves as rodeo workers, and Staghorn was amongst them. He was surprised to encounter his old enemy, Sagitar, and immediately dropped his disguise; his desire to fight his old enemy forcing Skeletor to enact his plans early and revealing the Mutant presence there. Staghorn placed his rivalry with Sagitar above any orders he might have received from Skeletor and Flogg on numerous occasions, often endangering their schemes with his single-minded hatred of his old enemy.[2]

Though not as dimwitted as the other Mutants, Skeletor once used a device on Staghorn that increased his intelligence and made him a genius; but ultimately, Staghorn and the other Mutants became too ambitious for their own good and Skeletor reverted them to their old selves.[3]

Staghornunmasked

Staghorn possessed a treacherous, unstable personality, but despite this, he held some degree of authority within the Mutant ranks, and was sometimes chosen to lead attacks.[4] On one occasion, when the Mothership was caught in an ion storm, Staghorn took advantage of the tense situation aboard the ship and planned to mutiny against Flogg, having grown tired of his leadership. Staghorn planned to set himself up as the new leader of the Mutants and managed to recruit Quakke, BH and Optikk to his cause. Ultimately, the mutiny ended when the Mutants were forced to put aside their differences to save themselves.

Staghornmutiny

Staghorn leads a revolt.

Staghorn's rivalry with Sagitar ultimately came to a head when the Mutants commenced a full scale invasion of the planet Equinos. The Mutants attempted to lure He-Man and the Galactic Guardians into a trap, and succeeded in briefly occupying the planet before being driven back by its native inhabitants and the Galactic Guardians. Staghorn confronted his old enemy Sagitar once more, but on this occasion, it was Sagitar who was the victor; overpowering Staghorn and hurling him from the top of a cliff into a river. Staghorn survived the fall, and, realizing he had lost, screamed in rage as the Mutants were driven from the planet.[5]

Toys[]

The Staghorn figure was released in 1991. It had a lever on its back, with the inner mechanism connected to the sides of his head. The included horned helmet was held by the sides, thus being raised and lowered by pulling the lever. The toy came with the following bio:

The Towering Mutant Tracker from the deepest, darkest part of the frozen Fog Zone on the evil planet Denebria. His dreaded shield of horns and heat-seeking eye enable him to move through the dense ice clouds and flip anything in his path out of the way.
Mission: To capture Sebrian, the wisest man on Primus, and the most zealous supporter of the Galactic Guardians in the Planetary Council. There is no place to hide from this high-tech hunter.
Battle Equipment: Armor/battle antlers and axe blaster.

Behind the scenes[]

  • Staghorn's right eye is usually closed, though some episodes show it open; possibly due to an animation error.
