Two-Bad is a character in the popular Masters of the Universe toy line and accompanying cartoon series, He-Man and the Masters of the Universe.

Two-Bad is a two-headed Evil Warrior who is basically two different beings sharing the same body. His right half is a blue creature, while his left half is a purple, scaly creature with an eyebrow-like yellow band on his forehead. His two heads have the habit of continuously arguing with one another. The character's name is a play on the phrase "too Bad".

History[]

Mini-comics[]

Two-Bad was an evil warrior who possessed considerable strength, but whose two heads had a habit of constantly arguing with one another, both endlessly blaming the other for their mistakes while claiming sole credit for all their strengths. Their endless bickering earned the wrath of Skeletor.

Two-Bad helped Skeletor in a plot to capture Roboto, piloting the Land Shark as they pursued him. Their arguing allowed Man-At-Arms to surprise them, knocking both their heads together as they bickered over who would grab Roboto's artificial heart[1].

Two-Bad was one of Skeletor's later recruits. His twin heads constantly argued with one another, creating a bumbling indecisiveness which led to numerous mistakes.

Two Bad assisted Skeletor in a plan to kidnap Zagraz the comet keeper, and objected to Zagraz's assertion that he was Skeletor's "friend". Skeletor went on to explain that he knew he could trust a creature like Two-Bad because he hated and feared him[2].

Two-Bad later assisted Skeletor in an attempt to seize Man-At-Arms' latest invention, the Sky Spy. Piloting the Collector, Two Bad managed to seize the ship, but the Collector was damaged, prompting Skeletor to forcibly throw Two-Bad from the ship with a parachute[3].

London Editions Comics[]

Two-Bad was an inventor and technician, who hada workshop of his own near Snake Mountain, in which he frequently designed new inventions to impress Skeletor. While his heads frequently argued, they were shown to be effective assistants for Skeletor when they managed to work together.

The heads were named "Blue-Head" (or occasionally "Blue-Face") and "Yellow Band". Two-Bad invented the "Buzz-Wheel of Destruction" and the "Crawl Bomb", amongst other weapons. These inventions initially seemed effective and impressed Skeletor, but then a fatal flaw emerged that the heads had overlooked, which resulted in everything going wrong and both heads blaming one another. Two-Bad's heads enjoyed playing Blocker against one another (the Eternian equivalent of Chess).

Tuvar (blue) and Baddrah (purple), were bounty hunters hired by Skeletor to destroy He-Man, but were highly reluctant to work together given their long-standing rivalry. While Tuvar was more intelligent and cunning, Baddrah was more reckless and fearsome, and the two clashed over how to combine their efforts.

After they failed in their attempt to work together, leading to He-Man's escape, Skeletor punished them by actually binding them together into one body with his magic. The two hated their new form and immediately began arguing with one another and blaming each other for their current predicament[4]. Later, Two-Bad attempted to search of the lost spell of separation, hoping to divide themselves back into two separate beings. When the spell backfired and began to cause destruction across Eternia, Two-Bad abandoned the scheme and fled[5].

Behind the Scenes[]

  • According to the toy line's creator Roger Sweet, the concept of Two-Bad originated from the idea for a character who is two beings in one: one good, and the other bad. However, due to the marketing strategy of packaging each character as being part of one particular side, it was not possible to package a character as both good and evil so he was made a fully-fledged evil warrior instead. The idea of his heads not getting along prevailed, however, and this idea seems to influence the design of his action figure, which had two spring-action arms aimed horizontally at one another. The figure's arms could be sprung back and forth to create the impression of the heads fighting among themselves. The design was "officially" to let Two-Bad "bear hug" enemies; it has never really been clear whether the character was designed to hit the opposing head or if this was just a coincidence of design. The original figure had a very thick upper body, making him top-heavy and hard to fit into vehicles. Later versions had a flat back, making the character lighter and easier to sit in vehicles.
  • In the Filmation series, Two-Bad was one of the few characters not to be designed symmetrically, the only other notable example being Trap Jaw. Characters were typically designed to be symmetrical so the animation cels could be easily flipped over and used in reverse, saving on production time and money. In the second season episode "Visitors From Earth", there is a brief animation error as Two-Bad's blue and purple sides are seen reversed.
  • Two-Bad was originally going to feature in the 2002 series right from the beginning, and was part of the original scripts for the earlier episodes. However, when one of the writing team suggested the possible origin for him as two rival bounty hunters, story editor Dean Stefan liked the idea and decided to base a whole episode around it, omitting Two-Bad from the early scripts to be introduced in "The Monster Within".[6]
