Web of Evil is the 36th episode of the 2002 He-Man and the Masters of the Universe series. It originally aired on December 20, 2003.

Summary[]

Webstor gains greater powers and treats to conquer Eternia with an army of spiders.

Full Synopsis[]

Webstor attacks a honeycomb of the Andreenids in the Mystic Mountains while the place is mostly unguarded. He eats the ambrosia within and starts mutating.

Meanwhile, the Heroic Warriors are evacuating the workers from some mines, in order to chase down some Snake Men on the hunt for food. Eventually, the Snake Men run away without any prey, so He-Man and the Masters head to the tavern where the miners are, to prevent them from going back into the mines.

There, Man-at-Arms recognises Fisto and the two get into a fight: Duncan defines Fisto "a deserter from the Great Unrest", but he doesn't comment any further.

Teela receives an alert signal from the Mystic Mountains and sends Buzz-Off and Stratos off to investigate. They find all the Andreenids trapped inside webs. One of the prisoners tells what Webstor did, but Buzz-Off and Stratos are horrified when they discover that Webstor's mutation made him also able to lay hundreds of eggs. The two are ambushed by Webstor just after sending a request for backup.

Webstor, now resembling a giant spider, plans to have his spiderlings feed off the prisoners, but He-Man and the Heroic Warriors get there at the right time. However, in the ensuing battle against the spider-army, they get trapped on the bottom of a crevice by a rockslide.

Fisto comes to their rescue and uses his giant fist to smash an opening in the rocks: he faints with his hand fractured and Duncan reveals Fisto to be his brother.

When He-Man and the Masters come back to Webstor's cave, they discover with horror that the Snake Men assaulted the place from underground and devoured all the eggs and the spiderlings. The Snake Men become even stronger because of the ambrosia in their meal.

Moral[]

Mekaneck: "Spiders are an important part of nature and do many good things for the environment. But there are a few spiders that bite. so unless a parent or teacher says it's all right, it's best not to get too near to them"
Ram-Man: "Yeah, it's always better to be safe than sorry"
Mekaneck and Ram-Man: "Until next time."

Trivia[]

  • The name of the Evil Warrior 'Webstor' is misspelled as 'Webster' during the end credits.
  • Buzz-Off explains that ambrosia is not completely toxic to the Arachna (Webstor's people), because their species are genetically closer. Indeed, the colour of ambrosia and of its light when becoming toxic is yellow, but from Webstor's eggs and children is violet because no toxic. Then, the Snake Men are positively affected because they've devoured that species, but of course, even in this case, its effects are limited.
  • Stratos states Webstor's new ability to lay down eggs is an 'unexpected result'. This could suggest that Arachna are not asexual, neither hermaphrodite: either Webstor could be a [1], or his species could be potentially able to reproduce by [2].
  • From this episode onwards, the Heroic Warriors are depicted with anti-snake men insignia on their armors: this is to match the characters' versions from the sub-toyline "Masters of the Universe vs the Snake Men".
  • The tavern owner is the same man with Unilope Shepherd in The Sweet Smell of Victory, and the merchant in Dragon's Brood and Buzz-Off's Pride.
